Lenticular cloud (altocumulus lenticularis) at sunset over Boulder, Colorado. Lenticular clouds form in broad waves of upward and downward air motion, usually created where strong winds encounter mountain barriers that force humid air layers to rise abruptly and oscillate downstream.
